Sabre Wrath follows a pilot and his F-86 Sabre in the first jet v jet dogfights in the dawn of the jet era over an area which became known as Mig Alley. The Korean War was not only a landmark conflict under the guidance of the United Nations, but it was also the first serious testing ground for jet-to-jet combat. The North Korean military capacity had barely progressed past ox carts and prop planes, forcing the Communist Chinese Air Force (CCAF) to augment much of their air defense. This led to Soviet equipment, training, and personal participating in the air war, and fast-evolving jet fighters quickly complicated air combat tactics.

The MiG-15s arrival in Korea, compelled the U.S. Air Force to begin deploying the new F-86 Sabre to Korea. Arriving on scene, the Sabre restored the balance to the air war. In comparison, the F-86 could out dive and out turn the MiG-15, but was inferior in rate of climb, ceiling, and acceleration. Though the Sabre was a more stable gun platform, the MiG-15's all-cannon armament was more effective than the American aircraft's six .50 cal. machine guns.

I was very keen to read this. The preview afforded by the "Look Inside" feature was very promising. I liked it but, as an earlier reviewer points out, it does jump around a bit. It can't make up it's mind if it's a fairly dry tome on the statistics of the F-86's Korean Air War, or an in-the-cockpit account of dogfights in same. Personally, while appreciating the statistics, I could have easily done with a just little less emphasis on them and much more of the personal recollections of pilots flying their MiG engagements.

So, ok, it is what it is and I did enjoy it - just some parts much more than others. What I did not enjoy was the fact that this needs some serious editing: far too many grammar and spelling mistakes. Not just "two" instead of "too" or "ad" instead of "and" but sentences that just stop, complete with a period, before they complete the thought they are obviously expressing... whereupon the next sentence is the continuation of that thought! As in, (I'll construct an example) "The quick red fox jumped over. The lazy brown dog." Sure, the odd mistake is bound to slip through. But there were a lot of clangers. Mr. Stone's bio states all of his books are "professionally edited and proofread." I must respectfully disagree in this instance. Hopefully this will be addressed in future.

Sabre Wrath Mig Alley Dogfights Korean War 19501953 eBook Steve Stone Reviews

Good story, but the editor failed to find several typos and other errors.
Read is a little slow could use more action sometimes gets to technical would have liked more action and a faster pace.
I really enjoyed This
Factual accounts of air warfare. Nice read
Hot Garbage. This was clearly copied from several websites' java code and pasted into word and sent to a publisher. There are several photo captions that are in-line with the general test and there is no accompanying photo anywhere.

Do not waste your time with this.
Good read but it does jump around a bit
This book is a well told story of the F86's role in the Korean War. Those who appreciate first person narratives will enjoy the book. Unfortunately, the author failed to get a decent proofreader to help his effort. The book is full of grammatical and literary errors which require readers to creatively unravel the intended meaning as the narrative unfolds.
